Weights, Stamps and Measures.
Of the unique in the museum collection are
weighted, measure stamps, and coin glass weights.
The glass
heavy weights were used to weigh spices, drugs and things. The coin glass
weights are round small discs inscribed with Kufic word indicating the
governor or prefect name, the coin weight and its metal and the date and
were used to weight the coins to ensure of its legality.
The glass never wear. The glass weights and
measure stamps provided us with good information about the economic
development in different Islamic periods and we know through it the names of
governors and prefect of the Islamic dynasties chronologically. Most of the
collection was excavated at al-Fustat and other Islamic area.
