The textile
The museum acquired a very good collection of
Islamic textiles from drunk excavations southern asiout
upper Egypt and from the excavations of al- fustat and ain al- sira ,
southern Cairo.
The textile collection includes pieces
attributed to the transitional period in the first three centuries of Hijra
(709 A.D.) in flounced with the Sassanian and Coptic art traditions during
the Umayyad , Abbasid , and Tulunid periods .the material use were wool and
linen threads with silk bards.
The collection includes a lot of Fatimid
textile pieces revealing that the textile industry in the Fatimid period was
highly developed reaching a high degree of perfection in techniques and
decorations 969- 1171 A.D. the industry centers were in the delta and upper
Egypt.
In the collection tare Mamluk textiles with
woven and printed patterns . The silk was used to produce complete clothes .
with the rise of ottoman rule in Egypt 1517 A.D. news art tradition with new
taste were know . the museum collection includes Persian textile from the
Safavid period.
